About a year ago I made a crazy discovery.
And I was shocked that I'd never heard of this.
I was researching different cotton qualities when I came across a study comparing the toxicity levels of conventional vs organic cotton.
And I couldn't believe what I was seeing:
Allergies, eczemas, dermatitis, respiratory problems, neurological damage and even gradual poisoning were all documented side-effects of conventional cotton.
The reason is simple: Heavy use of pesticides and insecticides (some carcinogenic) is completely "normal" in cotton farming - and formaldehyde is even a main component of mainstream fabric dyes.
For ethical reasons, I had already made the decision to only use GOTS certified organic cotton for Studio Nidra's collections. No synthetic pesticides or fertilizers.
But after reading up on the issue, I went one step further.
For our new crewneck sweatshirt I'm using 100% GOTS certified organic cotton made by Pyratex®. The supply chain is fully traceable, third party verified starting at the fiber.
Non-toxicity is not an afterthought here.
Conventional cotton is an incredibly large industry. Maybe that's why no one's talking about the fact that even 100% cotton clothing can be carcinogenic and cause hormone disruption.
Sounds crazy?
Wait until you hear about the other study analyzing infant clothing that found 303 different chemical substances across 43 samples. From traces of pesticides to prescription drugs.
Anyways, thought I would share.
Stop wearing clothes that are trying to kill you.
